Baseball Cap Shopping Guide

When it comes to fashion accessories for guys, there are very few options more popular than baseball caps. These headwear accessories have been around since the 1860's with the Brooklyn Excelsiors amateur baseball team sporting the first rounded baseball cap. It wasn't until the 1940's that we saw the first modern day looking baseball hats with a sun-protecting "bill" or "brim." Baseball caps grew in popularity as other sports leagues started to manufacture their own hats with team logos and colors of their respective teams. Not only have these caps been a mainstay in sports fashion, the military and police have also been known to wear these during active duty.

So what do you need to know when shopping for a baseball hat for yourself or as a gift idea? Let us discuss sizing which is probably the most important consideration when shopping for baseball hats. Sizing is important because this will determine the right fit as well as the most desired style. One popular option is the fitted baseball cap. Fitted hats come in a specific size and you need to know which size you need before purchasing because these hats are not adjustable in length. The back of the cap is completely closed as the fabric goes all the way around from the front to the back. Many people like fitted hats because they are the same as what the professional baseball players wear when they are on the field.

The next sizing option is the adjustable baseball hat. These are hats that have adjustable snaps or straps. The sizing can be adjusted at different length intervals by snapping a plastic piece in to place or moving a strap back and forth. The adjustable pieces come in different materials and fabrics such as plastic or wool. Adjustable caps are different in style from fitted as these hats do have an opening in the back that leaves a part of the person's head un-protected.

The last sizing option is the flex fit hat. Flex fit baseball caps are a hybrid of the fitted and adjustable hats. Like the fitted hats, flex hats do not have an opening in the back of the hat. The fabric does go all the way around from the front to the back. Unlike fitted hats though, flex hats are adjustable as the rim of the hat is lined with an elastic material which allows the hat to adjust itself without any manual effort. Flex hats gives the person wearing the hat the look and style of the fitted cap, with the sizing flexibility of the adjustable hats.

All 3 sizing options are great when shopping as it gives the shopper many options to choose from. No matter what kind of design you are looking for, you can usually expect to see baseball caps with a logo, colors of their respective teams or organizations and a "bill" or "brim which offers protection from the sun. The next time you are out looking for a baseball cap, remember that sizing matters and is probably the most important factor to consider before purchasing.
