Roland Garros Tennis Grand Slam - An Experience of a Lifetime
I love sports and one of the sports I enjoy the most is tennis. I watch it on TV, play with friends, it is really a great sport, but you don't have to be a big tennis fan in order to appreciate the game. Still, one of my dreams was to see the best tennis players play live in a Grand Slam tournament, after all these are the most important and prestigious tournaments in the tennis season.
So, when I was 25 years old me and my friends decided to take a trip to France and at the same time watch the Roland Garros (also known as the French Open) Grand Slam live! We planned everything so our trip will fall at the same time the tournament is being played in Paris and to tell you the truth, I loved to see and experience France and Paris but one thing was always on my mind - when will we be in the stadium with the fans from all over the world, when will we finally experience Grand Slam tennis.
When the day arrived and we had our tickets ready the excitement was huge among all of us. You have to understand that in the tennis season there are many and different tournaments all over the world but no one is as important as a Grand Slam tournament and there are only 4 of those a year and who knows when I will have time to witness and experience one live, so finally the time has come.
The 4 major Grand Slams in the tennis year are: Australian Open in Melbourne, Roland Garros in Paris, Wimbledon and US Open in NY City. I don't live near any of these countries so to finally be there was a big thrill for us. We got into the stadium and it was everything I imagined. Everything was clean, ready, people from all over the world, flags of different countries and the grass where the best tennis players in the world will soon be playing. I play tennis and enjoy watching it but now I was about to see the best of the best live in front of me and in Paris none the less.
What can I tell you, it was probably the best thing that could happen to us. We all saw and been in museums, theaters, cafe houses and even soccer and basketball games, but being in one of the best tournaments of the season and watching great tennis live, cheering with the fans, screaming when there was a great point was something we all cherished with us. It was the best thing in our trip and we all agreed to experience it again, maybe this time in another country.
If you're planning a trip to France or just want to experience once in your lifetime what great tennis is all about, you have to visit Paris when the Roland Garros is being played. Only when you witnessed it live, you'll understand why I was so excited when I wrote this post and all the memories it brought back.
See you there...
