The Physics And Design Of A Golf Club

The Physics And Design of a Golf Club

Do you remember in high school when we all learned about levers? Levers have a way of multiplying force thus giving you a mechanical advantage when you want to move a large object for example.

Most golfers think there are only 2 levers in the golf swing - the arms and the club. The reason for this I believe is because teaching pros either do not know this, or they think their students are too dumb to understand this.

There are actually 3 levers in the golf swing. This is such an important concept that it is worth repeating.

"THERE ARE 3 LEVERS IN THE GOLF SWING"!!!

The first lever is the arms, the second lever is the club...can you guess what the third lever is?

Most amateurs do not know the answer to this question. This is why most amateurs cannot create REAL club head speed.

The third lever is the clubface!

This 3rd lever rotates around its own axis. The clubface is rotating on an axis or plane that is DIFFERENT from the axis the other 2 levers in the swing are. The hands & wrists control the rotation of the club face.

How do we use this 3rd lever to create club head speed? In other words, how do we cause this third lever(the clubface) to deliver an incredible force through the ball?

You use this 3rd lever by pronating or rolling the right hand over the left hand (full release) as you swing through the ball.

To pronate through the golf ball means to turn the right palm face down as you are coming through the ball.

Simply stated, consciously rolling the right forearm over the left forearm as you swing through the impact area will ingrain the feeling of a full release.

This is how the PGA Tour Pros create that power draw that you see at tournaments.

Have you ever noticed why the ball sounds different coming off the golf pros club face?

The golf pros have mastered this principal.

A lot of the PGA Golf Tour Pros have been doing this for so long they don't even know they are doing it. It has become engrained in their subconscious. This is why I believe they cannot articulate what they are doing because it has become second nature.

Hit 'em Long and Straight!
